Quality sleep promotes numerous health outcomes including improved attention, memory, and overall cognitive function. How long adolescents sleep correlates with depressive problems and substance use behaviors. Early intervention strategies and parental monitoring can improve sleep and developmental outcomes, including reducing risky behaviors. By exploring the impacts of sleep deprivation and discussing practical strategies for improving sleep habits, this presentation seeks to empower attendees to prioritize sleep as a fundamental preventive measure for optimal health and wellness.

This program teaches a basic curriculum that uses music to help strengthen students' knowledge of rhythm, tone, and basic instruments. The main focus of the "Music and Emotion" program is to show how music can be used to help work through difficult situations, show the importance of your emotions, and help build relationships.

Guiding Growth: Using SEL & Data to Empower Adolescents

Join us in an interactive workshop for professionals who support adolescents ages 10-19 to learn the fundamentals of Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) and the key benefits for both individuals and communities. Participants will be familiarized with and receive a copy of "Social and Emotional Learning in Practice: A Toolkit of Practical Strategies and Resources” by the University of Minnesota. We will explore how to use data to make improvements, and learn about accommodations when implementing SEL to better meet the needs of all adolescents, particularly adolescents with disabilities or IEPs.

This workshop aims to introduce a Junior high Afterschool Program and the Summer Program model to provide ideas on recruiting and maintaining high Attendance, Academic School Relationships, Behavior Management, Community Engagement, and Family Involvement. The workshop objective is to equip Afterschool programs with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in their Coordinator role. They will learn how to recruit students and maintain high ADA, as well as build solid academic relationships with school faculty and administration. We will also provide them with protective factors, community, and family engagement that will assist in behavior management skills to enhance our afterschool and summer programs, ensuring they have the skills and support they need to succeed.

Join us for a chance to win a blender that can help you support class projects and support food waste reduction. 1 in 10 children in Utah faces hunger (Feeding America, 2019). There is a constant gap in feeding food-insecure children healthy meals in schools with limited resources and tons of food being discarded (Nargi, 2019). Join us to learn how to effectively deliver a program focused on food waste reduction, aligned with Utah educational standards, National 4-H priorities, and public health priorities. We will offer practical strategies to combat the critical issue of food waste using our comprehensive, hands-on curriculum tailored for delivery in an Afterschool program.
